Un, deux, trois, quatre…un app pour l’iOS

When I started learning French in grade school, one of the things we seem to have just glossed over were ways to express numerical statements. This lead to some trouble later on when I took French at more advanced levels, and many embarrassing moments resulted. Saying “eighty-two” in French is not entirely analogous to how it’s said in English, for example.

French :: English
Quatre-vingt deux :: eighty-two

In order to express any numbers beyond 60, you must express multiplication and addition terms as well.

Soixante-dix :: Seventy

“Soixante” is sixty, and “dix” is ten. Sixty + ten = seventy.

See what I mean? It can get challenging for a young child just starting out in French.

Fun Educational Apps featured a French Numbers App that addresses this common difficulty.

I wish something like the French Numbers app existed when I had been taking French language classes. The French Numbers by Erasmus helps both kids and adults alike to master numerical expression in French. It features a numpad with which you can type in a number and hear how it is said by a native speaker, and helps you read, write, and hear/speak numbers.
